SKOLVAN

The Band
Skolvan : the former group with from left to right Gilles le Bigot, Youenn Le Bihan, Fañch Landreau and Yann-Fañch Perroches

Some of the bands last, other don't. Skolvan is in the first category and could be called a safe bet of Breton traditional dance music. They not only follow the way, they trace it and drain many young fest-noz bands behind them.
In 1984, at the beginning of the band, there was a quatuor :Youenn Le Bihan, Gilles le Bigot, Fañch Landreau and Yann-Fañch Perroches. They played together for 10 years. But Fañch, who plays the fiddle with a fabulous taste of rythm and sensivity will then go away to play with in Filaj and Les Ours du Scorf. Yann-Fañch Perroches will also leave the band and record a solo accordion album : «An droug Hirnez».
The today 'Skolvan' is the summary of different personal musical influences, keeping roots at bay. They recorded three albums : « Come to the Dance » and « Swing and Tears » with the original quatuor, and the latest one, « Cheñchet'n eus an amzer » with the today group.

    Skolvan today is :

  • Youenn Le Bihan : piston, bombard, breton small pipes
Youenn Le Bihan is one of the best breton pipers and was the founder of Gwerz, one of the best breton band which inspired a whole generation of breton bands. Youenn also plays in couple with Patrick Molard in a C.D. called «Er Bolom koh»
  • Dominique Molard : drums
  • Bernard Le Dréau : soprano sax
  • Loïg Troel : diatonic accordion
  • Gilles le Bigot : guitar
Using an open-tuning style, Gilles Le Bigot has also been a member of folk bands such as Galorn, Kornog, Barzaz, Héritage des Celtes and participated in «Kerden», an album dedicated to guitar featuring 15 of the best guitar players from Brittany. Skolvan today with from left to right Dominique, Bernard, Gilles, Loïg and Youenn
